Indosat launches IMSecure to bolster customer data protection

Fri, 6th Sep 2024

Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat or IOH) has announced a renewed commitment to safeguarding customer personal data in conjunction with the recent launch of IMSecure, a new data security solution. This initiative is aimed at protecting customers from digital threats such as identity theft and cyberattacks.

Vikram Sinha, President Director, and CEO of Indosat, elaborated on the company's objectives, stating, "We have a mission to connect and empower every Indonesian through digital technology. However, we also understand that personal data security is the foundation of customer trust. Therefore, we are committed to ensuring that every step towards equitable digitalization in Indonesia is carried out while maintaining the highest standards in data protection."

IMSecure has been introduced under Indosat's IM3 brand, providing comprehensive protection for customers against various digital threats. The development of IMSecure involved a strategic partnership with a global firm specialising in digital security, ensuring high industry standards are met in protecting customer information.

In addition to launching IMSecure, Indosat has implemented a series of initiatives designed to bolster personal data protection in compliance with Personal Data Protection (PDP) regulations. One such initiative is a data privacy awareness programme that includes training and socialisation sessions about the PDP Law for all employees. This programme aims to guarantee that the company's workforce comprehensively understands and adheres to the regulations governing customer data management.

The company has also conducted extensive data type mapping and PDP compliance assessments. These assessments are integral to Indosat's compliance efforts, involving the categorisation of collected and processed data and establishing the legal basis for its processing. The findings from this mapping exercise are then compared with PDP regulations to ensure full compliance in all data processing activities.

Technical policies and procedures covering various aspects of personal data management, from data collection to deletion mechanisms, have been developed by Indosat. These measures aim to minimise data breach risks and maintain the integrity of customer information. Additionally, Indosat has put advanced data protection systems in place to manage PDP compliance and shield personal data from security threats, even when using third-party services.

Sinha highlighted the importance of trust within the digital ecosystem by saying, "In pursuing our mission to connect and empower Indonesia, we recognize that security is key to sustainability and trust in the digital ecosystem. We are committed to continually innovating in personal data protection, ensuring that everyone connected through our network can do so safely and with confidence."

To enhance public awareness about the importance of personal data protection, Indosat has launched several digital literacy initiatives. These educational programmes include guides on recognising and avoiding digital threats like phishing and malware, and advice on how to maintain online privacy. Through IMSecure and these literacy initiatives, Indosat aims to foster a more informed and secure digital community in Indonesia.
