A recently concluded study has revealed that the widespread use of TeamViewer's remote connectivity solutions has had a significant positive effect on the environment. Five Glaciers Consulting conducted the research, and TÜV SÜD critically reviewed it. The report's findings show that users and customers of the state-of-the-art software managed to avoid between 15.6 and 44.8 million tons of harmful CO2 emissions in 2022.

Experts devised a scenario to narrow down the estimated savings and based their calculations on factors including the number of travellers and preferred modes of transport, resulting in the reported avoidance of approximately 41 million tons of CO2 in the same 2022 timeframe. This considerable environmental manoeuvre corresponds to potentially negating CO2 produced by various significant contributors, whether we compare it to 42,000 return flights from London to Tokyo on board a Boeing 777-300ER, or to 10 times the emissions of Germany's waste management industry.

To put it into a different perspective, the CO2 emissions saved from TeamViewer software usage is a similar amount to that stored within an estimated 147,000 hectares of U.S. forest lands. This vast expanse of mature vegetation is 25 times greater than Manhattan's area.

The study substantiating these claims included validating data from an array of sources, including a survey of 850 qualified customer and user participants and TeamViewer's connection data from 2022. The independent review also included interviews with internal and external TeamViewer experts.

Following the finalisation of the study, Alexander Gührer, Director of Sustainability and Procurement at TeamViewer, praised the extent of the company's environmental achievements. While creating sustainable solutions to benefit customers is the key for TeamViewer, the company is also committed to its own goals of reducing emissions. Alexander Gührer added that “In addition to empowering users and customers to avoid carbon emissions, we are constantly working on minimising our own environmental impact. We are committed to driving sustainable practices across our operations every day.” TeamViewer's roadmap towards sustainability includes achieving the net-zero target by 2040 and reducing Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50 percent by 2030 based on the 2021 baseline.
