CelcomDigi spotlights 5G with towerrun & track duel
CelcomDigi has released a short film featuring Malaysian towerrunner Soh Wai Ching and motorsport rider Qabil Irfan in a synchronised challenge linked to 5G responsiveness.
The film, titled "An Epic Showcase of 5G", uses a timed sequence where Soh runs up a high-rise building to hit a buzzer while Qabil rides on a track as a gate narrows. The sequence hinges on whether the buzzer activates before the gate closes.
CelcomDigi framed the film as a demonstration of real-time network behaviour under a coordinated test. The company said it aimed to illustrate timing and accuracy in a scenario that depends on connectivity.
Soh recently set a Malaysia Book of Records mark for the fastest climb up Exchange 106, according to CelcomDigi. Qabil is described by the company as a FIM MiniGP World Champion and an emerging name in motorsport.
The film places both athletes in a single sequence with a shared outcome. One participant triggers an action at a distance, while the other encounters a moving constraint that changes over time.
CelcomDigi said the scenario reflects the role of responsiveness across consumer and professional use cases. The company cited streaming and gaming, and it also referenced remote operations and mission-critical actions.
Marketing focus
CelcomDigi positioned the film as a public-facing demonstration rather than a product announcement. The company tied the campaign to its 5G services and how it describes the user experience.
"5G services open new possibilities for how people live, work, and enjoy digital content. This showcase is a simple but powerful way to help Malaysians see what ultra-fast responsiveness looks like in action. Our focus is to deliver the best 5G service experience through great value plans, widest range of 5G device choices, and seamless internet access locally and abroad with the best global roaming partners," said Chan May Ling, Head of Brand and Marketing Services, CelcomDigi.
The company said it provides 4G service across its network and it has added 5G connectivity. It also said all of its 20.5 million customers are provisioned for 5G.
CelcomDigi linked this provisioning approach to device upgrade programmes. It said these programmes simplify upgrades. The company also said it has seen steady 5G adoption.
Network claims
CelcomDigi described itself as Malaysia's largest mobile network operator, with more than 20.5 million users on its network. It also described its network as the country's widest, fastest and most secure.
Telecoms operators in Malaysia have increased focus on 5G service differentiation through marketing, partnerships and use-case demonstrations. Operators and vendors have used sports, events and video campaigns as visible formats for discussing latency and reliability in consumer-friendly terms.
The CelcomDigi film uses two distinct environments, a tower climb and a track run, and it connects them through a single timed decision point. The narrative centres on whether remote activation occurs quickly enough to affect a physical outcome.
Enterprise agenda
Beyond consumer services, CelcomDigi said it works with enterprises on "5G-enabled and AI-powered solutions". The company named sectors including agriculture, logistics, manufacturing, healthcare and energy.
CelcomDigi said it provides next-generation connectivity, cloud solutions, cybersecurity capabilities and data-driven technologies for businesses. It said these technologies improve operational efficiency and create new digital opportunities.
The company also linked these efforts to Malaysia's push towards broader digital adoption. CelcomDigi referred to a "5G-AI digital society" and said businesses need digital foundations to compete in the country's expanding digital economy.
The campaign arrives as operators seek to translate investment in 5G networks into usage and plan adoption. Video demonstrations have become a common route for explaining network attributes that are otherwise difficult for customers to observe directly.
The film continues CelcomDigi's push to combine network messaging with public storytelling. The company said it will keep its focus on 5G service experience, device choices and roaming partnerships.
