DE-CIX records robust growth & expansions in 2023

DE-CIX, the preeminent operator of Internet Exchanges (IXs) worldwide, has recently disclosed the company's robust financial performance for the year 2023 in their Annual Report. As per the records, DE-CIX saw a substantial growth in terms of global turnover and data exchange, further solidifying its ongoing upward march.

The company's global revenues escalated, accumulating a total of 63 million Euros, which represents an increase of 8 million (or up by 14%) in comparison to the year 2022. Such a remarkable upward trajectory echoes DE-CIX's previous years' trend of growth. In addition, the connected customer capacity on the DE-CIX Internet Exchanges expanded by 14%, reaching a staggering 140 terabits, and the number of interconnected networks by the end of the year exceeded 3,600 across the globe.

The world-renowned internet exchange operator, DE-CIX experienced a considerable 23% growth in total traffic volume, leading to nearly 60 exabytes of global data throughput in 2023. Notably, DE-CIX Frankfurt, one of the largest IXs in the globe, achieved peak traffic speeds beyond 16 Terabits per second (Tbit/s), while the universal peak traffic across the company's interconnected platforms surged to over 22 Tbit/s.

Alongside such impressive figures, DE-CIX has been laying groundwork in Malaysia, establishing a novel Internet Exchange, Penang-IX powered by DE-CIX, which was officially launched at the beginning of 2024. This new presence expands the reach of the DE-CIX Asia platform, the first-ever distributed IX in Southeast Asia, across seven markets: Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Penang, Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei, Manila (through an IX partnership with operator GetaFIX), and Jakarta.
