Indosat posts IDR 1.3 billion Q1 profit, expands AI focus
Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison has reported its financial results for the first quarter of 2025, recording a 4.6% year-on-year increase in average revenue per user and marking its 17th consecutive quarter of net profitability.
The company added 700,000 new customers over the previous quarter, expanding its base to 95.4 million mobile users. Average revenue per user reached IDR 39,200 in the quarter, according to Indosat.
Total revenue amounted to IDR 13,577.9 billion, remaining stable, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation reached IDR 6,415.1 billion, a 0.6% increase quarter-on-quarter. Net profit attributable to owners of the parent rose to IDR 1,311.1 billion, up 27% from the previous quarter.
The firm highlighted these achievements in what it described as an "extremely competitive and challenging industry environment." The company cited disciplined execution and a sustained commitment to supporting Indonesia's progress in digital and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Vikram Sinha, President Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, said, "This quarter's results reflect not only strong financial performance, but also the unwavering dedication of our entire team to serve the people of Indonesia. In an increasingly competitive landscape, we have remained focused on our larger purpose—empowering Indonesia."
Sinha also explained, "In building the foundation for a digital and AI-driven nation, Indosat is laying the groundwork for Indonesia's digital future by expanding its mobile infrastructure nationwide, with a focus on high-capacity, AI-ready networks. Through continued investments in 4G and preparations for 5G, Indosat is enabling broader, faster, and more reliable access to digital services, particularly in underserved areas."
"This infrastructure is not only vital for connectivity, but also essential for powering the technologies that will drive Indonesia's next wave of transformation: AI, IoT, cloud computing, and digital platforms."
In the first quarter, Indosat invested IDR 2,620.4 billion in capital expenditure, with 90.4% allocated to its cellular business. The company expanded its 4G base transceiver station network to 202,179 units, a 10% increase year-on-year, aiming to enhance digital access and service reliability nationwide.
The company also partnered with Nokia and NVIDIA, becoming the first operator in Southeast Asia—and third globally—to commercially deploy AI-RAN technology. According to Indosat, this deployment enhances the operator's 5G Cloud RAN with artificial intelligence, aiming to improve network efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and increase service quality.
Indosat hosted Indonesia AI Day for the Mining Industry, bringing together industry participants to discuss artificial intelligence, 5G, and Internet of Things (Iot) solutions for sustainability and operational efficiency in the mining sector.
As part of broader digital initiatives, Indosat launched the Digital Hub in February 2025. The company describes the Digital Hub as an integrated ecosystem offering entertainment, e-commerce, health, and lifestyle products. Indosat stated these services have achieved notable uptake, with more than 50 million monthly active users and 10 million daily users on the myIM3 and bima+ platforms.
In addition to its digital lifestyle activities, Indosat has continued its focus on talent development through initiatives such as Generasi TerkonekSI (GenSi) and IDCamp. These programmes provide training and certification in artificial intelligence, automation, and digital leadership skills. Indosat reports that these schemes are designed to prepare young Indonesians for a changing employment landscape, citing global recognition for the certifications offered.
The company views this integrated approach to digital lifestyle and talent development as central to its ongoing transformation. Indosat says it is increasing investment in advanced network technologies while expanding education programs and supporting a robust ecosystem to cultivate artificial intelligence innovation.
Vikram Sinha concluded, "Our journey to become an AI-TechCo has just begun. From investing in networks and talent to driving collaboration across industries, our goal remains the same: to make technology a force for inclusion, innovation, and digital sovereignty."
