Mobile operator enterprise revenue to reach USD $348 billion by 2029

Today

Juniper Research has forecast that enterprise revenue for mobile network operators worldwide will rise by 37% to reach USD $348 billion by 2029.

This projection is attributed to operators increasing their revenue by monetising services and technologies beyond their traditional core network offerings, thereby catering more effectively to enterprise customers.

The report from Juniper Research indicates that to make the most of this expected growth, operators will need to use the flexible structure of new-generation networks to offer services suitable for a wide range of industries and business sizes.

Two strategies have been identified by Juniper Research as crucial for operators to realise this revenue potential.

The first is the introduction of network APIs, which enable enterprises to incorporate telecommunications functionalities into their own software applications. Juniper Research notes that providing API access on a usage-based model will attract small-to-medium sized enterprises into the telecommunications sector and drive enterprise-focused revenue streams.

Frederick Savage, the report's author, said, "Operators are tasked with increasing enterprise revenue for both large enterprises and SMEs. We expect 6G standards to focus far more on access to network functionality, rather than performance. APIs will be a key monetisation strategy for operators by allowing enterprises to access networks as needed, rather than committing to monthly connectivity subscriptions."

The second key strategy identified is the expansion of managed services, especially as networks grow in complexity. Managed services, which include network monitoring, maintenance, and optimisation, are seen as essential for operators to maximise the value of cellular networks for enterprise customers.

According to the report, operators will need to attract large-spending enterprise clients by developing managed service offerings that can solve the increasingly complex connectivity requirements associated with enterprise operations. This trend is expected to be particularly pronounced as 6G networks are rolled out and network demands increase.

The research package from Juniper Research provides an extensive evaluation of revenue prospects and strategies for network operators across 61 countries. It features in-depth market analysis, a five-year data set, a competitor leaderboard, and an assessment of present and future commercial opportunities.

Juniper Research has stated that for two decades it has delivered market intelligence and advisory services to the telecommunications sector globally, serving numerous network operators and communications platforms.
