SES partners with Resorts World Cruises for high-speed internet

Wed, 29th May 2024

SES, a global provider of content connectivity solutions, has formed a strategic partnership with Resorts World Cruises, an Asian cruise line, to deploy advanced connectivity solutions aboard its flagship cruise vessel, Genting Dream. This collaboration marks a significant milestone as Resorts World Cruises becomes the first Asian cruise line to implement SES's integrated Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) service, which promises to transform the cruising experience for passengers.

The innovative partnership will equip Resorts World Cruises with SES Cruise mPOWERED + Starlink PRO, a fully integrated end-to-end service combining SES's MEO and Starlink's LEO satellite coverage. This advanced connectivity service is designed to offer reliable high-speed internet connectivity with speeds of up to 1.5Gbps, regardless of the ship's location. The service aims to ensure guests and crew can access high-quality digital services, facilitating a seamless and enhanced onboard experience.

Michael Goh, President of Resorts World Cruises, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the importance of state-of-the-art connectivity in today's digital age. "At Resorts World Cruises, we are constantly striving to enhance our onboard guests' experiences with best-in-class hospitality and services, complemented by the latest innovations and technology offerings. In this digital age, state-of-the-art connectivity is at the heart of many vacationers. As such, we are delighted to engage SES to pioneer connected experiences at sea for the cruise market, whilst also making the most of this connectivity to optimise our operations," Goh stated.

The integration of SES Cruise mPOWERED + Starlink PRO will enable Resorts World Cruises to offer a range of personalised digital services, including world-class entertainment, shopping, and dining experiences. The connectivity will extend across all onboard accommodations, including the luxurious Palace suites, spas, and first-class entertainment venues. The initiative is also expected to enhance operational efficiencies for the cruise line, enabling more effective communication and management across its fleet.

Simon Maher, Global Head of Maritime Cruise at SES, underscored the critical role that reliable high-speed connectivity plays in modern cruising. "Reliable high-speed connectivity is an essential enabler for Resorts World Cruises' ambition of redefining cruising, with world-class luxury accommodation, exclusive restaurants, spas and other facilities, as well as personalised tailored experiences for their guests. With our fully integrated, end-to-end service that brings together the power of multiple orbits, we are proud to deliver unmatched connectivity that powers cruise liners' cutting-edge onboard offering and helps companies maintain their competitive edge," Maher remarked.

Resorts World Cruises' adoption of SES Cruise mPOWERED + Starlink PRO is set to position the cruise line at the forefront of technological innovation in the maritime industry. The deployment on Genting Dream will be followed by similar installations on Resorts World One, signalling a broader rollout of these advanced connectivity solutions across the company's fleet.
