Singtel adopts TR-369 standard, enhances broadband services

Tue, 30th Jul 2024

Singtel has announced that it is the world's first fixed broadband service provider to adopt the international Broadband Forum TR-369 standard for Wi-Fi management. With the rise in multiple devices relying on Wi-Fi, this new standard, coupled with Nokia’s Corteca Home Controller, promises to improve customers’ digital experiences by efficiently managing multi-vendor home broadband customer premises equipment and accelerating the roll-out of new innovative technologies and capabilities such as Wi-Fi 7 and 10Gbps broadband services.

The adoption of the TR-369 standard ensures better interoperability between the network and connected devices. This enables Singtel's technical care agents to gain deeper insights into network performance, allowing them to pre-empt and resolve issues more effectively. These capabilities are vital as smart home setups become more complex and the demand for high-speed internet increases.

Mr Tay Yeow Lian, Managing Director of Networks at Singtel Singapore, said, "With the adoption of an open standard such as TR-369, we can better manage and optimise the Wi-Fi connections using intelligent algorithms, which will automatically ease network congestion and eliminate interference from other Wi-Fi networks to deliver the smoothest, uninterrupted user experience for our customers. With consumers adopting a more immersive digital lifestyle, it is even more pertinent to have smoother and faster home internet connectivity."

Mr Sang Xulei, Vice President and Head of Asia Pacific Regional Business Centre for Network Infrastructure at Nokia, added, "Service providers, such as Singtel, require an efficient cloud platform to manage broadband devices and optimise the in-home connectivity. Our Corteca solution is built on new open standards like TR-369 and EasyMesh, making it simple for operators to manage multi-vendor networks, and provide an unparalleled user experience."

Over the years, Singtel has made significant investments to enhance the national broadband network in order to support the rising demand for new technologies. In December 2023, Singtel introduced Singapore’s first symmetrical 10Gbps broadband plan with the latest Wi-Fi 7 protocol, offering speeds of up to 10Gbps wirelessly for both uploads and downloads.

Singtel's adoption of the Broadband Forum TR-369 standard marks a significant step forward in enhancing Wi-Fi management and home broadband services. By leveraging Nokia’s Corteca Home Controller and investing in cutting-edge technologies like Wi-Fi 7 and 10Gbps broadband, Singtel is poised to deliver a seamless and high-speed digital experience to its customers. This development underscores Singtel’s commitment to innovation and its proactive approach to meeting the growing demands of smart home connectivity, ensuring that customers can enjoy smoother, more reliable internet services.
