Software Radio Systems unveils integration of 5G O-RUs

Yesterday

Software Radio Systems has announced the successful integration and testing of nine Open RAN Radio Units (O-RUs) with its srsRAN Enterprise 5G software solution.

The integration supports seamless interoperability with O-RUs from a range of vendors, including Benetel, Foxconn, Picocom, Liteon, VVDN, and AMD. This compatibility enables the deployment of scalable and flexible 5G networks without the necessity for complex integration processes.

Paul Sutton, Chief Executive Officer of Software Radio Systems, stated: "Quick and efficient activation of high-performance private 5G networks delivers on the promise of an Open RAN ecosystem which will be built on best-in-class equipment and solutions. Each vendor brings unique capabilities, enabling customers to deploy 5G solutions tailored to their needs, from indoor private networks to large-scale outdoor deployments."

Sutton continued, "We are delighted to have demonstrated srsRAN's flexibility by integrating with some of the industry's leading O-RUs to deliver a range of deployment-ready solutions for 5G Open RAN."

A prominently featured aspect of the srsRAN Enterprise 5G software solution is its Open Fronthaul (OFH) library and API, which facilitates the integration of new O-RU models and streamlines deployments. This feature enables customers to deploy robust 5G networks rapidly using quality radios and general-purpose RAN compute hardware.

The software solution is adaptable to multiple architectures, including Intel, AMD, ARM, and NXP, allowing customers to choose configurations that meet their specific performance, cost, and environmental requirements. This adaptability is credited with providing enterprises the ability to modernise connectivity while maintaining flexibility in hardware choices.

The integration encompasses Benetel's RAN 650 and RAN 550, which have proven effective in challenging environments and are already deployed in live networks. These O-RUs are ideal for large-scale industrial and campus applications due to their extensive coverage capabilities.

Foxconn's RPQN 4800E and 7801 O-RUs are designed for indoor use in office and retail settings, offering straightforward connectivity with the srsRAN software for quick deployment of 5G networks.

Picocom's PC802 SCB, celebrated for its efficiency in small-scale deployments, is already in practical use. Recent integration with Picocom's PC805 RDB expands these capabilities to broader applications.

Liteon's FlexFI offers versatility in maintaining high-bandwidth connections indoors, a feature enhanced by its integration with the srsRAN software solution.

The VVDN LPRU, while not yet in live networks, has been fully tested with the software, making it suitable for medium to large indoor facilities. AMD's ZCU670, built for diverse enterprise environments, rounds out the integrations, promising high throughput and low latency performance. Finally, the srsRAN Enterprise 5G solution and its integration capabilities will be showcased in upcoming live deployments.
