Super Sistem enhances Indonesia's digital infrastructure with Infinera
In a significant move to enhance digital infrastructure in Southeast Asia, Indonesian network operator Super Sistem Group (Super Sistem) has chosen Infinera's GX Series and ICE6 800G coherent solution for the Super Sistem Batam Singapore (SSBS) Cable System. This subsea fibre optic cable will connect Batam to Singapore, forming part of Super Sistem's broader initiative to deliver broadband to underserved communities across Indonesia, including its remote islands.
Indonesia, the fourth most populous country globally, with over 270 million people scattered across 17,000 islands, faces unique connectivity challenges. Super Sistem's national initiative aims to bridge these gaps by establishing a network linking Batam, Jakarta, and Manado with seven landing stations over 4,700 kilometres. By deploying Infinera's advanced ICE6 800G technology, Super Sistem seeks to maximise spectral efficiency and fibre capacity, increasing the cable system's capacity, reliability, and reach while minimising costs per bit.
Kelvan Firman, CEO of Super Sistem, emphasised the company's commitment to Indonesia's economic development through reliable and affordable digital infrastructure. "Infineras industry-leading technology helps us push the boundaries of what is possible with undersea communications, improving communication services within Indonesia," he noted. By leveraging such cutting-edge solutions, Super Sistem aims to enhance connectivity, particularly in the archipelago's remote regions.
Ryan Perera, Senior Vice President of APAC Sales at Infinera, expressed the company's enthusiasm for participating in Super Sistem's mission to connect Indonesian islands with the world. "Infineras GX solution will enable Super Sistem to leverage the industry's highest-capacity solution and equip its service provider customers with high-performance services in one of the world's fastest-growing telecom markets," Perera said.
The deployment of Infinera's GX Series and ICE6 800G coherent solution in the Super Sistem Batam Singapore (SSBS) Cable System marks a significant advancement in Indonesia's digital infrastructure. This strategic initiative not only promises to enhance connectivity between Batam and Singapore but also plays a critical role in Super Sistem's broader mission to bridge the digital divide across Indonesia's vast archipelago.
By utilising cutting-edge technology, Super Sistem is set to provide robust, high-capacity, and cost-effective communication services, driving economic development and improving the quality of life for millions of Indonesians, particularly in underserved and remote regions. This collaboration exemplifies the potential of technological innovation in transforming connectivity and fostering inclusive growth in emerging markets.
