Huawei claims inaugural Mentoring SG Corporate Excellence Award
Huawei, the leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT), has been declared the winner of the inaugural Mentoring SG Corporate Excellence Award. The announcement was made at the National Mentoring Summit 2023. The award honours corporate organisations for their outstanding contributions to the local mentoring community and verifies Huawei's significant commitment to its in-house mentoring community and the broader mentorship ecosystem.
Mentoring SG, a nation-wide movement started in 2022 by Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, has been instrumental in encouraging a culture of mentorship among the younger generation in Singapore. Its objective is to increase outreach to more corporate partners and individuals while supporting and strengthening the ecosystem. Mentoring SG envisions unleashing youth potential by expanding their understanding of success and aids them with decisive transition guidance, support, and practical advice.
As part of efforts to increase industry-specific mentoring initiatives, Mentoring SG is embarking on a partnership with Huawei to launch the Tech4City programme. Tech4City, a prestigious ideation competition by Huawei Singapore, focuses on empowering the local youth to build the future of Singapore through innovative technology.
The Mentoring SG Corporate Excellence Award was presented to Huawei International by Alvin Tan, the Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, acting in his capacity as the advisor to Mentoring SG. The award underlined Huawei's distinct commitment to the mentoring community.
In response to the recognition, Charles Cheng, Managing Director of Huawei International, expressed: "Mentoring and developing a talent ecosystem is a marathon, not a sprint. Tech4City is Huawei's enduring agenda to stimulate local community resilience and encourage young innovators to design solutions for numerous real-world challenges in Singapore. The 2023 version of the Tech4City competition focused on merging technological advancements with the creation of social impacts to foster a more inclusive and sustainable Singapore. The competition garnered over 370 participants forming 144 teams with 89 submitted proposals to address themes such as Well-being, Learning, Energy, Mobility and Finance.
