Indosat enhances network for Ramadan & Idulfitri demand

Yesterday

Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison has launched a project to enhance network performance in anticipation of increased demand during the holy month of Ramadan and Idulfitri.

The Reliable Network Quest, as the initiative is known, aims to ensure that Indonesians across the country can maintain stable connectivity while travelling to visit relatives during this festive period. The initiative focuses on high-traffic areas, attempting to support the expected rise in users requiring communication services for calls, messaging, and internet usage.

Vikram Sinha, President Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, said, "We understand the vital role of connectivity during Ramadan and Idulfitri. Therefore, we ensure our customers can enjoy a stable and seamless service for communicating with their families, worshipping, and carrying out their digital activities. With a reliable and strong network, Indosat guarantees that every customer remains connected without disruptions during the festive season."

The company projects an increase of 14.6% in daily national data traffic during Ramadan, anticipating this to peak just before Idulfitri. To counter potential congestion, Indosat has optimised its network capacity across various areas, such as Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) and Mobile Base Transceiver Stations (MBTS), and implemented real-time traffic monitoring.

These efforts will cover 632 high-traffic points, 68 strategic routes, 29 toll roads, 30 non-toll roads, and 9 railway routes. Notably, cities like Bogor, Tasikmalaya, Sukabumi, and Greater Jakarta are expected to significantly increase data demand. Further afield, areas in Java such as Purwokerto, Madiun, and Pati, in Sumatra including Metro-Kota Bumi and Baturaja, and in Kalisumapa (comprising Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua) with regions like Bone and Gowa will also likely experience increased network usage.

Indosat has increased its capacity to 9,600 BTS and 800 transport networks to fortify the network. Additionally, they have expanded coverage by deploying 1,500 new BTS and 53 Mobile BTS. Operational stability is backed by 1,100 Mobile Generators and an on-call team of 3,000 technicians throughout Indonesia.

During this period, several digital services are anticipated to experience heavier than usual use. These include platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Meanwhile, popular gaming applications, including Mobile Legends, Roblox, Free Fire, PUBG, and Call of Duty, are set to see heightened activity.
