Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, in collaboration with Ericsson, has accomplished its Circuit Switch (CS) Core Transformation ahead of its intended schedule. The success of this transformation has led to an improvement in network efficiency and customer satisfaction.
This pivotal project commenced in November 2022, with completion in September 2023, ahead of its original timeline. The transformation involved a consolidation of two disparate CS networks into one unified network featuring cutting-edge architecture. This progress was a direct result of the merger programme initiated by Indosat, resulting in a significant 53 percent reduction in operational expenditure (OPEX) and enhancing the customer satisfaction index by an additional 1.1 percent.
Through the CS Core Transformation onto a single Ericsson platform, Indosat has minimised the risk of network disruptions or downtime due to factors such as fibre or power cuts. Indosat's customers can, therefore, benefit from smooth and uninterrupted voice and SMS services nationwide. This significant accomplishment also enhanced customer interactions by 33 percent and reduced call setup times by 495 milliseconds. Consequently, the streamlined network led to a decrease in the number of prerequisites for hardware, software, and infrastructure, further reducing the operational expenses.
Desmond Cheung, Director and Chief Technology Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, expressed great satisfaction with the project's completion and its implications for their customers. 'In sync with our mission of delivering top-grade digital experiences and connecting and empowering every Indonesian, we stay committed to providing a reliable network that improves our customer experience. This successful project underscores the combined commitment of Ericsson and ourselves to harness our network and ecosystem’s maximum potential for customer benefit,' stated Cheung.
Conversely, Head of Ericsson Indonesia, Krishna Patil, mirrored this sentiment, expressing his contentment over the project completion ahead of time. The transformation has already begun augmenting efficiency and customer experience for Indosat and their consumers.
Previously in January 2023, Ericsson assisted Indosat in integrating its network using Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) technology in JABODETABEK. This resulted in improved digital experience for customers in the area, due to its enhanced coverage, improved indoor service quality, and accelerated internet experience. The integration project was concluded ahead of schedule, marking another triumphant collaboration between the two entities.
