StarHub launches ScamSafe app to combat scam calls in Singapore

Thu, 21st Aug 2025

StarHub has introduced a new app, ScamSafe, aiming to proactively protect Singapore consumers from scam calls and SMS messages.

ScamSafe was developed in collaboration with Gogolook, a company specialising in artificial intelligence-based anti-scam technologies. The app is part of SafeHub+, StarHub's suite of cybersecurity offerings, which supports customers in managing digital security risks.

Features of ScamSafe

The ScamSafe mobile application automatically blocks known scam calls and filters suspicious SMS messages before they reach users. In addition to its automatic protection, the app allows users to set up additional keyword filters for SMS, check the legitimacy of unknown numbers using an up-to-date scam database, and report potential scams to help protect others.

ScamSafe will be available free of charge to all users in Singapore for a six-month period, provided they sign up before the end of December 2025. Post-trial, the service is available as a monthly subscription: StarHub customers will pay SGD $2.99 per month, while non-StarHub users will be charged SGD $4.99 per month. The app can be downloaded via the App Store and Google Play, and StarHub customers can subscribe using the My StarHub app to obtain the exclusive rate.

Customer protection

StarHub framed the launch of ScamSafe as part of its wider and ongoing commitment to digital safety for its customers. As part of a statement on the development, StarHub emphasised that ScamSafe was created to keep digital security simple, proactive, and accessible to all users. A spokesperson said, "As StarHub marks 25 years of serving and safeguarding Singapore, it is reaffirming its commitment to customer protection with ScamSafe, a new mobile app that keeps digital security simple, proactive, and accessible to all."

"ScamSafe is the latest addition to SafeHub+, StarHub's growing suite of cybersecurity tools that make it easier for people to stay safe online, whether it's helping someone avoid a scam call during a busy day, or giving a loved one the confidence to use their phones without worry. As Singapore celebrates SG60, protecting our digital lives is more important than ever, and SafeHub+ aims to give people the confidence to navigate today's connected world securely. More tools and services will be added throughout 2025, expanding SafeHub+ into a full ecosystem of simple, user-friendly ways to stay safe in today's digital world."

StarHub representatives highlighted the increasing sophistication of scam communications, noting that the ability to identify fraudulent messages and calls has become more challenging for consumers in Singapore.

Development partnership

The collaboration with Gogolook, a company with a background in AI-powered scam detection, was underlined by both companies as central to the new app's capabilities. Gogolook's experience in building large databases of scam-related data - such as phone numbers and websites - strengthens ScamSafe's effectiveness in identifying fraudulent contacts.

Gogolook works in partnership with organisations and authorities internationally to address scam activity, and its ongoing efforts include cooperation with law enforcement and governmental agencies in several countries.

Future plans

According to StarHub, ScamSafe represents the latest step in an expanding suite of security tools offered to customers and the public through SafeHub+. The company plans to introduce additional tools and services in 2025, further developing SafeHub+ into what it describes as a comprehensive ecosystem for online safety.

The introduction of ScamSafe follows StarHub's anniversary celebrations and coincides with broader national initiatives marking significant milestones for Singapore, such as SG60.

Both StarHub and Gogolook expressed the intention to make digital security straightforward, helping users remain vigilant and confident against increasingly complex scam tactics.
